Description
The ricasso is signed by the maker “C. v. Keller” or Christof von Keller of Solingen, Germany. This is a great piece of history.
Pulled some history from the net: "First seen in 1794, the "Eagle Pommel" swords were a fixture of the early years of the United States. At the time there were no standardized officer sword patterns, and it was mainly left up to the officer on the type of sword they wanted, as well as the level of craftsmanship.
This lovely example has a 31 inch long blade, with a single wide fuller on each side extending half way down the blade. The body of the blade for most of the fuller is a lovely "Fire Blued" color, with gold highlighted engravings. There is some nice ornate scrollwork towards the end of the blued section.
Sword has an elaborate cast and chased brass hilt with a fierce eagle pommel."
