    Description

Here is an original Brown Bess India Pattern bayonet in like new condition; just a few light scratches.  Probably the nicest I've seen having its original finish with portions aged like color case hardening.
Marked JOHN.GILL and the WD (War Department) Broad Arrow acceptance mark.  John and Thomas Gill made Land, India, and New Land Pattern bayonets in the UK during and after the Revolutionary War.  India Patterns were made beginning approx. 1797 and fit both Land Pattern and India Pattern muskets.
Blade is 16 3/4" lonng, 1 1/8" wide at base and the .75 cal. socket is 4" long.  The blade is a stout one.
Because bayonets were all hand fitted to individual muskets during this period it may or may not fit yours.
