    Description

    Admiral George Cranfield Berkeley in 1804 he was appointed Commander in Chief of all naval forces in North American. In 1809 he rendered great service in handling the transport soldiers and provisions needed by Wellington for the Peninsular War. He was a patron of William Jenner and was instrumental in having Jenner recognized as the discoverer of the smallpox vaccination. 1- page letter dated July 17,1814 “I send you this letter to keep, as it will remained Lord M, that he has booked you for any vacancy which happens. We are all arrived safe, hope you are all well. G. Berkeley” This Letter is addressed to James Baikie who is acted as Admiral Berkeley’s Secretary during his time in North America.
