Description
This
is a RARE Antique 1830 / 191 Year Old book titled “Abstract of Infantry Tactics
Including Exercises & Maneuvers of Light Infantry for the Use of Militia of
the United States”. Published by Hilliard, Gray, Little & Wilkins of
Boston, this 138-page leather covered hardcover, includes text & B&W
illustrations. Some of the illustrations are foldouts. The contents include
sections on; Formation of a Regiment; Posts of Company Officers; Posts of Field
Officers & Staff; Posts of Drummers & Musicians; Posts of Colors &
Color Guard; School of the Soldier; School of the Company; School of the
Battalion; Exercises & Maneuvers for Light Infantry & Riflemen; &
Parade & Review. There is an interesting 1830 label on the inside front
cover detailing the New York State / General Order to hand down such books as
this, from the ownership of one Officer to the next. The label is signed by
previous military owner “MH Webster”, and there is the name of the more modern
previous owner on the inside blank fly-leaf, that was signed in 1960 when it
was presented as a gift. The book is in surprisingly solid condition. While
there is light surface wear & stains to the outer leather cover, and foxing
here & there throughout the book, the spine is still tight, and there are
only some short splits here & there along the outer front cover spine edge.
The cover is still very solidly attached. It Makes you wonder, whose gifted
Military hands might have touched this book over the years! Shipping is Free
for this Lot, in the USA! Thank You for Considering My Item!!
