    Description

Antique Unknown Saber Bayonet measuring 28" long overall with a blade length of 22-5/8".  Inside socket diameter .819".  Fullered blade with a dark age patina, wear, use, showing small pin-prick scattered pitting. Missing grip, right side has a "B" stamped on handle. The guard and pommel and blade are all tight. The press-stud, ejector is in good working order.  Pommel end appears to have a inverted marking of "ST", but not certain.  No scabbard.  This looks like the French M1842, but measurements do not match, possibly the Joslyn Rifle Bayonet, perhaps, one of the US Models from 1855-73.  I will start this one at zero and let you decide what it is and what it's worth. A nice piece that warrants further research and restoration.  See photos for further details, clarification, and condition.
