    Description

Original Dug Battlefield or Camp Found British Napoleonic Musket Balls for Flintlocks
    Collection of 6 musket balls
These are objects that were part of a Napoleonic estate collection that I have seen selling on eBay over the last year. The late collector had many Napoleonic items including excavated ones; he was especially interested in the Spanish Peninsular War, Russian Campaign and Waterloo Campaign and these may have been found at any of those locations. He did not leave information behind that would help us establish specific locations
Similar examples may be seen in both A Korolev’s fine reference on excavated items from Napoleon’s Great Army from the route of the ill fated Russian Campaign as well as the book on Waterloo relics
The balls are dug items and have the expected imperfections: dents, scratches and earth expected of excavated items
There are larger size than another lot of six larger size balls from the same collection I am also listing in a separate lot so I assume these are all British for the Brown Bess in the area of .75 caliber and the other lot of smaller balls in the area of .69 caliber for the French flintlocks.
As an historical note the British Brown Bess was also used by Russian troops during the Napoleonic Wars. England sent large quantities to Russia, Prussia and other countries. Brown Bess size balls and musket parts, some recovered parts actually having Russian markings (as may be seem in Korolev's illustrated book have been excavated from the sites of the 1812 Russian Campaign.
I have listed a collection of musket flints from the same collection as a separate lot so please see my other Napoleonic items available on eBay.
