    Description

French Sabre Briquet with Leather Scabbard. The ricasso is unmarked, no markings anywhere. The brass guard features a rooster on the knuckle guard, "Liberte" on the crossguard, flowers on the quillon. The guard has a little movement. The etched blade has "Garde Nationale" on one side, the reverse has Ordre Public", both sides also have floral/leaf etchings. The blade is straight, unsharpened, the tip is sharp, and overall it does have some age spots scattered throughout but mainly on the last 7 1/2" by the tip. The leather scabbard has some light crazing, the stitching is mostly tight, the frog stud has been broken off, and the brass mounts have some small dings. Washer is missing. Length of the blade is 26 5/8" (1 1/4" wide and 5/16" thick), the sword is 331 13/16" and overall in the scabbard it is also 33 3/8". Unusual and Uncommon piece!
