    Description

    We offer an original stipple engraving of the American General officer and War hero of the first Barbary War, 1808.  He also was a Diplomat and testified at Aaron Burr's trial.  The engraving is from a painting by Saint Menin and was engraved by Hamlin and published in 1808.
    The piece is inset in a 6" x 9" mount where one can also see the verso.
    William Eaton (1764 – 1811) was a United States General Officer and Consul General to Tunis.   He played an important diplomatic and military role in the First Barbary War. (1801–1805). He led the first foreign United States military victory at the Battle of Derne by capturing the Tripoli subject city of Derne in support of the restoration of the Pasha Hamet Caramelli. Eaton also gave testimony at the treason trial of Vice President Aaron Burr. He served one term in the General Court of Massachusetts.
