Description
German Infantry Sabre Briquet.The ricasso is marked "H & R Boker" over "Remscheid" (
Herman and Robert Boeker of Remscheid, Solingen, Germany, ca. 1830)
. The brass guard is tight, solid and shows typical wear.
The blade
is straight, unsharpened but feels sharp due to the several nicks along the edge, the tip is a little sharp, an
d overall it has a darkened patina with some light pitting
.
W
asher is missing. Length of the blade is 23 3/8" (1 3/8" wide and 3/8" thick) and overall the sword is 28 3/4".
Napoleonic pattern, adopted by French military in 1808 but very popular and used by many nations for the next 80 years as a short saber, both in the infantry and among artillery and marine troops, some in fact imported by the Confederacy during the Civil War.
