    Scarce Imperial Russian Crimean War Pickelhaube Style Helmet, fine example of the standard pattern enlisted ranks headdress as worn by the Imperial Russian troops during the Crimean War. The leather bodied helmet has the large central brass regimental helmet plate in the form of double headed Russian eagle with white metal numerals “26” to the lower section for the 26th Infantry regiment. Brass scaled leather backed chinstraps. Riveted rear spine and correct brass cross piece with steeped fused grenade style spike fitting. A very good example of a now scarce item of Military headdress to find. The 26th Russian Infantry regiment were overrun when Sebastopol (Sevastopol) was taken. Many of these Russian helmets were taken as souvenirs after the fall of Sebastopol. Finial is a little crooked see pics.....
    From My Fathers Collection Purchased in London at Tradition April 1989. nice provenance;
    Inside inscription reads " Russian Helmet picked up after the the fall of Sevastopol and brought to England by Captain Arthur Thomas Phillpotts Commanding
    " A" Troop The Chestnut Troop Royal Horse Artillery 1855"  Phillpotts Army listings show he served at the siege and fall of Sebastopol.
