Infantry Officers Overcoat Button - Scovill MG CO RMDC

Description

22.7mm Union Officers Overcoat button. Has the "Scovill MG. CO Waterbury' backmark. Tice states that the use of Moline or split "I"s started around 1860. The backmark book suggests this RMDC backmark is older. The button may be post war, but because of the bm I listed as CW. The button appears to have a dug "tan" patinia. I was tempted to clean it to see if there is gilt underneath. An interesting specimin.
