Description
Offered: Two 10 x 15 Chandler & Price original equipment cast iron chase. This offering is for two identical two handle chases. Both chases are in like new mint condition. Both chases carry the Chandler & Price imprint cast into the upper side of chase. Chases have been stripped of any ink build-up, grime, carefully inspected for any defects, then painted with clear coat varnish to prevent rust. Chases have no cracks, damage or repairs. Chase was placed on my imposing stone and checked for warp by pressing on all four corners for rocking, chase lays solidly on stone and is true and square and without warp (rocking).
For the benefit of folks new this chase will fit into both New and Old Series 8 x 12 letterpress presses: The Old Series C&P presses (circa 1887-1911) have curved spokes in their flywheels while the New Series presses have straight spokes (circa 1911-1964.)
This chase was manufactured by Chandler & Price Manufacturing Company of Cleveland Ohio. Chandler & Price was founded in 1881 by Harrison T. Chandler and William H. Price in Cleveland, Ohio. The company ceased production in 1964. I would have to say the Chandler & Price press would rate the equivalent title as the Model "T" had to automobiles. The C&P was a popular press in their day, a lot of them made and remains to be a popular press with letterpress printers not unlike the model "T" to car enthusiasts.
I have been offering cleaned up (recycled) letterpress chases that I am no longer using or in this case, no longer own the press that they belonged to.
Purchasing a cleaned up chase with ink build up removed reduces the chance of receiving a repaired /welded chase is hidden under all that build up. I have found a few chases that have really good repairs that are completely covered with ink. When you purchase a clean chase from me you will not be purchasing a chase with any hidden flaws. That said, a well repaired chase can last just about as long as a new one when properly taken care of, although I'm sure you would appreciate knowing of any shortcomings at time of purchase. If I am offering an item that has issues, I clearly point them out in my listing. My litmus test for tossing anything questionable: "If I would not buy it, they go to the scrap yard."
This item will ship FedEx Ground /Home Delivery. FedEx shipping includes insurance coverage as well as FedEx Tracking.
All purchases ship no later than next business day.
