This
War of 1812 Maryland1812 dragoon saber
was used by the Buck family of Monkton, Maryland in the War of 1812 & in the Civil War. This saber is 32 ¾” long with a 28 ½” curved blade, brass P guard & backstrap & no twisted wire on the grip. It is in fair to good condition with the blade having light/medium pitting & a dark brown patina the brass guard & backstrap have a dark bronze patina. It was used in the
War of 1812 by
Trumpeter John Buck when he served in the Maryland Independent Light Dragoons & fought at the Battle of North Point on September 12 & at Fort McHenry on September 13/14,1814. It was used in the Civil War by Lieutenant Walter Buck when he served in the 7
th
Virginia Cavalry from June 12, 1861 June 21, 1863 when he was killed at the Battle of Upperville Virginia. This saber was found in the barn at the old family farmhouse sight near Monkton, Maryland by his descendant David Buck in 1955. . .It comes with a certificate of authenticity, notes from David Bucks grandson from whom it was bought & historical research.
