    Description
Here is a nice very rare 18th century naval swivel cannon with it's original iron and wood mount in original condition. The iron cannon barrel has a maker's mark on it's base with a hinged fuse cover. The iron surface is dark and smooth from age and the fuse hole is blocked due to age and corrosion. The original iron and wood mount has it's original black pitch pine painted surface with age splits to the wood with shrinkage in areas which is slightly loose but still held together by the iron fittings. On the back are two shaped handles so it could be easily aimed when used by a sailor. On the front end is an iron loop so it could swivel on an iron nail or wooden peg on a warships side rail also making it easier to reload.
It would have been loaded with many muskets balls for maximum effect against the enemy. The barrel is hollow all the way to the back end which was tested with a stick. In total measuring 15.6 inches long and the barrel measures 11.2 inches long and 3.5 inches wide. The muzzle hole measures 17 mm's wide. Originally from Edinburgh Scotland from a gentleman's naval collection
