    Description
Here is a nice 19th century sailor's wooden pressgang tool in original condition. The solid lignum vitae hardwood surface has a nice patina with wear from age which can be seen in the photos. The head feels weighted when held by the handle and on the side of the head is a very old naval anchor mark which can also be seen in the photos. Pressgang tools were used for keeping sailors in line and for pressgang recruitment work on land as well as being useful during a boarding attack and self defence on pay day at the docks. Originally from Leith docks, Edinburgh Scotland from a maritime naval collection. In total measuring 9 inches long and the solid shaped head measures 1.5 inches wide.
