Blue shagreen grip with silver and brass tightly wound wire wrap. The blade very good, with small areas of very shallow pitting. The blade is extensively etched with floral décor and battle honors, including Balaklava, Inkermann, Waterloo, Peninsula, Barrosa, Talavera, Egypt, and Lincelles, with two empty banners for future honors. Also bearing the regimental badge of the Scots Guards and the owner’s crest, and etched with the maker’s inscription: Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London, and serial numbered 7305 on the top spine (= 1855 as the year of manufacture). Iron scabbard with two suspension rings. Both screws at the top of the scabbard are in place and have never been turned since the sword was originally made. Overall this sword is in Very Good Condition. A rare regimental sword to an officer, obviously commissioned for service in the Crimean War and with a record of his prior service in the Peninsula War on the blade.
The winning bidder will also receive a photocopy of the receipt from Wilkinson confirming the original purchase and serial number, but the receipt does not bear the purchaser’s name. Further research could be conducted on the owner’s crest on the blade.
