Description

I am offering for sale an extremely rare Circa 1812 handwritten Livret Booklet by a French soldier in Napoleon's Army during the 1812 Russian Campaign.   I have attached a closeup photo of the top of the front page of the livret which identifies the soldier as having belonged to the 8th Company of the 1st Battalion, 33rd Cohort, of the French National Guard.  Napoleon deployed National Guard Cohorts for field duty, combining 4 cohorts to form one line infantry regiment.  It records various details of his service record and military life including a ledger of his receipts and expenses.  The cover appears to be made of vellum taken from an older document.
The original string binding is intact.
It is in excellent condition with age appropriate wear and patina.  It measures 4 1/2" x 7".
