Description
Here is an early U.S. 1812 Contract Cavalry Saber with correct original metal scabbard. 39" overall with a 34" curved blade with a clip point. Ricasso area of blade clearly marked, "P" (proved) "HHP"(Henry H. Perkins) and "N.STARR" (Nathan Starr, leading US sword maker from 1798-1830). "P" stamping on the knuckle guard exterior. Spine top metal and Guard show a brown gray rust smooth patina, the Wood grip has seven grooves and has seven grooves and is covered in 7 grooves with thin leather right side shows some loss near the pommel end area. Still has the original play washer, the blade shows a gray age patina with wear, use, some scratches, with very light pitting near mostly near the point area with also a couple of small light blade edge nicks. The handle is tight with no loosenes. Steel Scabbard,with two rings fits perfectly over the sword. The scabbard shows some aged brown patina paint that has partially come off throughout, but no dents. A very good piece for it's age with the scabbard!
