    St Helena Medal with the original ribbon. The medal was instituted by Napoleon III in 1857 for the surviving veterans of the Napoleonic Wars 1792-1815, the last medal to be awarded was in 1870. There were over 350,000 French recipients and 55,000 foreigners.
